UAE SEEKS CLARITY ON CEASEFIRE TERMS
The United Arab Emirates on Wednesday urged Iran to compensate for damage caused by recent Gulf attacks, while also seeking clarity on ceasefire terms. The statement followed a US-brokered two-week truce between Washington and Tehran after more than a month of escalating conflict. However, the ceasefire remains fragile as Iran reported fresh attacks, and Gulf states, including the UAE, accused Tehran of targeting them.
Moreover, the UAEโs foreign ministry emphasized the need for firm guarantees. It stated that Iran must commit fully to halting hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz without conditions. The UAE stressed that regional stability depends on uninterrupted maritime navigation and clear enforcement of the agreement.
REGIONAL TENSIONS AND SECURITY CONCERNS RISE
During the conflict, Iran launched strikes across the Gulf in retaliation for US and Israeli operations that eliminated key figures in its leadership. Consequently, the UAE suffered some of the most extensive damage. Iranian attacks hit not only US-linked assets but also civilian infrastructure, including airports, ports, hotels, energy facilities, and residential areas.
In addition, the UAE called for addressing broader threats posed by Iran, including its nuclear program, ballistic missiles, drones, and proxy networks. Officials warned that continued threats to shipping routes and economic stability in the Strait of Hormuz could escalate tensions further.
Meanwhile, diplomatic relations have deteriorated sharply. The UAE recalled its ambassador from Tehran and shut its embassy. It also imposed strict travel restrictions on Iranian nationals, while authorities in Dubai closed several Iran-linked institutions. As a result, years of cautious rapprochement between Gulf states and Iran have unraveled, giving way to renewed hostility and heightened regional uncertainty.
