The UAE government has officially confirmed the public holiday schedule for 2025, ensuring that both public and private sector workers will enjoy at least 12 holidays. An additional day off will be granted if Ramadan lasts 30 days, as it did in 2024.
The announcement, published in the official gazette, follows a review of federal laws regarding labor relations, human resources, and public holidays. The new resolution, effective from January 1, 2025, aligns the holiday schedule with moon sightings, meaning that the exact dates for certain holidays will be confirmed closer to their respective times.
Key holidays for 2025 include New Year’s Day on January 1, Eid Al Fitr from March 30 to April 3, and Eid Al Adha from June 5 to June 8.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, chairman of the Emirates Astronomical Society, commented on the predictions, stating, “We can accurately predict the new moon’s position for up to 100 years in advance based on certain elements. However, official confirmation is required from the Ministry of Justice, despite the scientific accuracy.”
While public holidays such as Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha may be adjusted based on government decisions, local governments also have the authority to approve additional official holidays beyond those set by the national cabinet.
