Former U.S. President Donald Trump on Saturday confirmed that American forces had carried out a โvery successful attackโ on three Iranian nuclear sites, including the underground facility at Fordow. Posting on Truth Social, Trump announced, โAll planes are safely on their way home,โ and praised โour great American Warriors.โ He concluded the message with a call for de-escalation: โNow is the time for peace.โ
Trumpโs decision to align with Israelโs military campaign against Iran follows days of deliberation and marks a significant escalation in regional tensions. According to two senior White House officials, Trump spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu shortly after the strikes.
A U.S. official confirmed that B-2 stealth bombers were deployed in the operation targeting Iranโs nuclear infrastructure.
Iranian officials have since acknowledged that the targeted sitesโincluding Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahanโwere indeed struck. Hassan Abedini, deputy political director of Iranโs state broadcaster, stated live on air that the facilities had been evacuated in advance and contained no radioactive materials at the time of the attacks. He downplayed the impact, saying Iran โdidnโt suffer a major blow.โ
The state news agency IRNA also cited officials saying there were no radioactive materials present at the time of the strikes. Local Iranian authorities confirmed explosions near the targeted facilities, with Morteza Heydari, a crisis management official from Qom Province, acknowledging that part of the Fordow site had come under attack. Similar confirmations came from Akbar Salehi, deputy governor of Isfahan, who reported explosions near Natanz and Isfahan.
Meanwhile, Israelโs public broadcaster Kan quoted an Israeli official saying the operation was conducted in โfull coordinationโ with Washington, further underscoring the joint nature of the offensive.
