MIANWALI: Police on Thursday said a two-month-old baby girl was allegedly murdered by her parents in the Harnoli area of Mianwali. Officials identified the infant as Palwasha and stated that the couple reportedly killed her because they were unhappy about the birth of another daughter.
Investigators said the parents allegedly drowned the child in a household water tank. Police later arrested the girl’s father, Shahzad, while the mother fled the scene and remains at large. A murder case has been registered by the state, with Assistant Sub-Inspector Syed Anwar of Harnoli Police Station serving as the complainant.
Police said Shahzad confessed during interrogation. He reportedly told officers that he acted on his wife’s instructions. He further stated that he “hoped for a son” and did not want another daughter.
Officers described the murder as a shocking and distressing incident. They assured that investigators are handling the case with complete seriousness and urgency. The child’s body has been sent for a post-mortem examination under standard medico-legal procedures, officials added.
Efforts are under way to arrest the mother as the investigation continues.
