LAHORE: The case involving Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shehrbano Naqvi has taken a new turn as serious allegations have emerged against her accuser, eye specialist Dr Ali Zain-ul-Abideen. While the doctor has accused the senior police officer of coercion and abuse of authority, a new complainant has now come forward, raising questions about the doctor’s professional conduct.
The latest allegations have intensified public scrutiny and complicated an already high-profile dispute that involves claims of medical negligence, police pressure, and disputed financial transactions.
Patient Alleges Botched Eye Surgery and Permanent Blindness
A Lahore resident, Asif Akhtar, has accused Dr Ali Zain-ul-Abideen of performing a wrong eye surgery on his cousin. Speaking to the media, Asif claimed that the procedure resulted in the permanent loss of her eyesight. He stated that before the operation, his cousin had partial vision, which deteriorated completely after surgery.
According to Asif, the doctor carried out the procedure under the assurance that a lens would be implanted to improve vision. Instead, he said, the surgery left the patient blind. He alleged that the operation fundamentally altered his cousin’s life and caused irreversible damage.
Asif further claimed that Dr Ali Zain-ul-Abideen charged the family Rs500,000 for the treatment. He said Rs200,000 of this amount was taken specifically for lens implantation. Despite the failed outcome, he alleged, the doctor continued demanding and receiving payments.
“I have all the operation documents and evidence,” Asif told reporters. He added that the family repeatedly approached the doctor after the surgery. However, he said they received no clear explanation or meaningful response.
The affected family has now decided to pursue legal action. Asif confirmed that they plan to approach the Punjab Healthcare Commission. A formal complaint will be filed seeking a full inquiry. The family has demanded strict action if medical negligence is established.
Allegations Surface Amid Doctor’s Claims Against Police Officer
These new accusations have surfaced while Dr Ali Zain-ul-Abideen remains at the center of controversy over his claims against ASP Shehrbano Naqvi. On December 26, 2025, the doctor alleged that the police officer used her authority to force him into paying millions of rupees to a female patient following a medical dispute.
Dr Ali Zain claimed the patient underwent laser eye surgery at his clinic in April. He maintained that the procedure was medically successful. Despite this, he alleged that ASP Shehrbano Naqvi summoned him to the police station and told him the surgery had been done incorrectly. According to the doctor, she demanded that he return the money so the patient could seek treatment elsewhere.
The doctor claimed the patient had already taken Rs400,000 from his clinic, even though she had paid only Rs150,000 for the surgery. He alleged that despite informing the ASP of this repayment, he was instructed to pay again.
Claims of Police Pressure and Financial Coercion
Dr Ali Zain further alleged that under police pressure, he handed over three cheques totaling Rs10 million to the patient. He said one cheque had already been encashed. Meanwhile, his legal team moved the courts to stop payment on the remaining two. According to him, the total amount taken from him so far stands at Rs7.5 million.
He also claimed that the woman maintained close ties with the police. Additionally, he alleged that SHO Khurram was sent to his clinic on the instructions of ASP Shehrbano Naqvi. During this visit, he claimed, his clinic guard was illegally detained and locked up.
The doctor argued that police officers have no authority to determine the success or failure of a medical procedure. He stressed that only a qualified medical board can make such assessments based on proper medical reports.
ASP Shehrbano Naqvi Denies All Allegations
ASP Shehrbano Naqvi has firmly rejected the accusations. She stated that Dr Ali Zain visited her office only once. She said she merely advised him to resolve the dispute amicably with the patient. She denied using force, issuing threats, or harassing the doctor.
She also dismissed claims of mistreatment, saying no abuse or violence occurred. According to her, police involvement remained limited and lawful.
As allegations now surround both sides, the case continues to draw attention from health authorities, law enforcement, and the public. Multiple inquiries are expected as investigators examine claims of medical negligence alongside accusations of police overreach.
