ISLAMABAD: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held talks with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Wednesday to enhance economic and defence relations between the two nations. The summit, the first High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting, follows the creation of the forum in 2022 during a meeting in Bali.
Erdogan’s state visit to Indonesia marks his second stop in a four-day tour, which also includes Malaysia and Pakistan.
The two leaders discussed regional and global issues, focusing on the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Erdogan also reiterated his stance against the US proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza, urging Israel to take responsibility for the region’s reconstruction.
The two nations have strengthened their ties in recent years, with defence cooperation agreements signed and plans for joint military exercises in the works. Erdogan’s visit is expected to result in further agreements on trade, investment, education, and technology.
After his visit to Indonesia, Erdogan will continue his tour in Pakistan, where he will attend the Pakistan-Türkiye Business and Investment Forum and another High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council meeting.
