Türkiye and Saudi Arabia will strengthen cooperation in the defence industry, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said, highlighting interest in Ankara’s homegrown stealth fighter jet, KAAN, after high-level talks during his Cairo visit.
Speaking to reporters aboard his return flight, Erdogan said the two countries were moving toward steps. He noted that Saudi Arabia had offered positive feedback on Türkiye’s defence capabilities and showed readiness to advance joint projects without delay.
Expanding military-industrial partnership
Erdogan said Ankara and Riyadh had signed agreements to expand defence industry collaboration. He stressed that both sides shared a determination to build lasting partnerships, particularly in advanced military technologies.
Moreover, Erdogan said Türkiye and Saudi Arabia were discussing joint investment opportunities linked to KAAN. He added that the partnership could be implemented at any moment, reflecting confidence and strategic alignment. Turkish officials view the project as central to the country’s push for self-reliance in defence production.
Meanwhile, Erdogan underlined that defence cooperation formed part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral ties. He said increased coordination could contribute to regional stability amid geopolitical uncertainty.
Regional diplomacy and Gaza focus
Turning to regional tensions, Erdogan expressed hope that the standoff between Iran and the United States would ease through dialogue. He emphasised that establishing a negotiating table remained essential to prevent escalation.
In addition, Erdogan addressed Gaza, saying Türkiye would play an active role in ensuring proper implementation of the Gaza peace plan. He said Ankara aimed to help restore peace and stability through diplomacy and humanitarian support.
