Turkish Airlines has confirmed a significant expansion of its fleet, announcing the purchase of 75 Boeing B787 aircraft. At the same time, the airline has finalized negotiations with Boeing for another 150 Boeing 737-8/10 MAX planes, pending engine-related agreements.
Boeing 787 Purchase Finalized
In a filing to Borsa Istanbul, Türkiye’s primary stock exchange, the airline disclosed its plan to acquire 75 Boeing 787-9 and 787-10 models. The order includes 50 firm purchases and 25 options, with deliveries scheduled between 2029 and 2034.
The company emphasized that discussions with Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace are ongoing. These talks cover engine supply, spare engines, and long-term maintenance services for the newly ordered Dreamliners.
Negotiations on 737 MAX Orders
Turkish Airlines also revealed that it has completed talks with Boeing regarding the purchase of 150 Boeing 737-8/10 MAX aircraft. This order includes 100 firm commitments and 50 options. However, the final confirmation depends on successful negotiations with CFM International, the engine manufacturer.
By securing these deals, the airline aims to further strengthen its operations while ensuring long-term reliability across its international routes.
Fleet Modernization Strategy
According to the airline, the strategy behind these purchases is centered on building a new-generation fleet by 2035. Turkish Airlines stated:
“With these orders, our entire fleet is targeted to consist of new-generation aircraft by 2035, thereby strengthening operational efficiency and supporting an average annual growth rate of around 6 percent.”
The focus on fuel-efficient models like the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the 737 MAX reflects the company’s commitment to lowering operating costs and reducing environmental impact.
A Step Toward Growth and Efficiency
This move marks one of the largest fleet investments by a global airline in recent years. Industry analysts believe that these aircraft acquisitions will position Turkish Airlines to meet rising passenger demand while enhancing competitiveness on both regional and intercontinental routes.
By 2035, the airline expects its modernized fleet to not only expand its global footprint but also support sustainable, profitable growth in an increasingly competitive aviation industry.
