Emine Erdoğan Calls for Global Assistance Amid Widespread Destruction in Pakistan’s Flood-Affected Areas
Turkey’s First Lady, Emine Erdoğan, has expressed her deep sympathy for the millions affected by the devastating floods in Pakistan and called on the global community to step up efforts to aid the victims. In a heartfelt message shared via X (formerly Twitter), Erdoğan reminded the world of Turkey’s long-standing support for Pakistan, dating back to the 2010 floods, when she personally witnessed the severe hardships faced by flood victims.
“I visited Pakistan during the 2010 floods and saw the unbearable pain and suffering of families who lost everything,” Erdoğan said. “Turkey was among the first to help Pakistan back then, and even today, our prayers, hearts, and support remain with the Pakistani people.” She added that Turkey’s humanitarian aid efforts are already underway through organizations like the Turkish Red Crescent, which is actively coordinating relief efforts for those in need.
Ongoing Relief Efforts and Urgent Global Appeal
Emine Erdoğan urged the international community to show compassion and solidarity, emphasizing that the wounds inflicted by the floods must be healed with humanity and compassion. She expressed hope that countries around the world would prioritize immediate support for Pakistan’s flood victims, particularly in the hardest-hit regions.
The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reports that 1,769 villages have been submerged, affecting over 1.23 million people. Around 248,000 individuals have been displaced, and 28 lives have been lost so far. Despite the overwhelming devastation, rescue operations are ongoing in Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Nankana Sahib, and Rajanpur.
As part of the relief efforts, the Pakistani Army, Rangers, and Rescue 1122 have evacuated thousands to safety and saved approximately 148,000 animals. In addition to providing food, shelter, and medical care, rescue teams are working tirelessly to support the displaced families.
Erdoğan concluded her message with a call for unity, saying, “The time for action is now. Let us work together to alleviate the suffering of Pakistan’s flood victims.”
