President Donald Trump expressed gratitude to the Muslim American community for their support during the 2024 presidential election at his first Ramadan iftar dinner of his second term, held at the White House.
During his speech, Trump acknowledged the “hundreds of thousands” of Muslim Americans who backed his campaign and promised to reciprocate their support. “As we honor the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, let me begin by saying to our Muslim friends, we have many tonight, and I think we have many all over the world, based on the results in Michigan and other places. I just want to say hello to all the people that supported us so strongly—Ramadan Mubarak,” Trump said.
The President also used the opportunity to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to peace in the Middle East, pointing to the success of the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and several Muslim-majority countries during his first term. “We’re keeping our promises to the Muslim community. My administration is engaged in relentless diplomacy to forge lasting peace in the Middle East, building on the historic Abraham Accords, which everybody said would be impossible. Now we’re going to start filling them out,” Trump declared.
In his remarks, Trump emphasized the ongoing diplomatic efforts of his administration, which included a focus on bringing peace and stability to the region, with a special emphasis on resolving the Israel-Gaza conflict. Trump also referenced a temporary ceasefire in Gaza just before his presidency began and reiterated his commitment to Israel’s actions, vowing to increase military aid. He controversially suggested that his administration take control of Gaza to shape the region according to his vision.
The iftar dinner, while attended by many political figures, had seating for just over 60 people, and it was unclear how many Muslims were present. Notable attendees included Trump allies such as Senator Lindsey Graham, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau.
