White House Introduces Priority Visa Scheme
President Donald Trump on Monday introduced a special fast-track visa scheme for holders of tickets to the 2026 World Cup. His administration, however, cautioned that the new programme would not guarantee entry into the United States. Officials stressed that travelers must still pass the usual security checks.
The United States has pledged a smooth World Cup experience despite concerns that Trump’s strict border policies could hinder fans. The administration insists that security procedures will remain intact while efforts continue to manage increased visitor volumes.
FIFA Pass Aims to Accelerate Visa Appointments
Trump announced the initiative during a meeting in the Oval Office with FIFA President Gianni Infantino. Infantino has frequently appeared alongside Trump since the Republican leader returned to the White House in January. He described the new “FIFA Pass” as a very important step for global fans.

Infantino stated that ticket holders would receive priority appointments for visa processing. He said millions of visitors are expected from around the world. He added that the FIFA Pass would help ensure legitimate fans attend matches under favourable conditions.
Trump urged applicants to begin the process immediately. He said early applications would reduce pressure on the system as the tournament approaches.
US Officials Clarify Limitations of The Programme
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, however, warned that the FIFA Pass provides access only to an expedited appointment. He stressed that the pass does not replace a visa. He also emphasized that it does not guarantee entry into the country.
Rubio explained that ticket holders should expect interview appointments within six to eight weeks. He advised people to submit applications without delay. Rubio said delays could disrupt travel plans nearer to the tournament.
Political Tensions Cast Shadow Over Tournament Preparations
Trump has positioned the 2026 World Cup as a signature event of his second presidency. He also linked the tournament to the 250th anniversary of American independence next year. However, political tensions continue to surround preparations.
Trump has suggested relocating matches from certain host cities. He claimed these cities face rising crime and migration issues under Democratic leadership. His remarks have intensified political debates during the final stages of tournament planning.
The World Cup draw will take place in Washington on December 5. FIFA will also unveil a new peace prize the same day. Widespread speculation suggests the award could potentially go to Trump.
