US President Donald Trump has called on pharmaceutical companies to provide clear evidence about the success of Covid-related drugs. He highlighted ongoing disagreements over whether these medicines truly saved lives.
Trump Questions Effectiveness of Covid Drugs
In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump expressed frustration over the lack of transparency. He said he had been shown โextraordinary informationโ from major pharmaceutical firms such as Pfizer. However, according to him, these results have not been shared with the public.
โWith the CDC being ripped apart over this question, I want the answer, and I want it NOW,โ Trump wrote. He urged companies to disclose their findings openly to โclear up this mess.โ
Recent Vaccine Approvals Spark New Debate
Just last week, the Food and Drug Administration approved the latest round of Covid vaccines. However, these shots were authorized only for individuals at higher risk of severe illness. Vaccines from Pfizer with BioNTech, Moderna, and Novavax with Sanofi were all included in the approval.
The presidentโs comments came shortly after he dismissed Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Susan Monarez. Reports indicate she was unwilling to resign despite pressure. Additionally, four other senior health officials also left the agency, intensifying instability within the CDC.
Kennedyโs Overhaul of Health Agencies
The leadership shakeup follows reforms by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He has been restructuring federal health agencies, cutting staff, and overhauling vaccine policies. His actions have included dissolving a key government vaccine advisory panel and halting studies on mRNA shot technology.
In a message to CDC staff, Kennedy defended his agenda as an effort to rebuild trust in public health institutions. He claimed โsignificant progressโ had already been made.
However, many public health experts, physicians, and researchers have warned that Kennedyโs measures risk undermining the CDCโs ability to function. They argue that reduced staffing and cuts in research funding could have long-term negative consequences.
Trumpโs Mixed Signals on Covid Vaccines
Despite supporting Kennedyโs restructuring, Trump has not fully embraced his stance that vaccines were harmful. The president appears to be weighing both sides of the debate.
Trump has previously praised Operation Warp Speed, the initiative launched under his administration to accelerate Covid vaccine development. He stated, โI hope Operation Warp Speed was as โbrilliantโ as many say it was. If not, we want answers, and why?โ
This statement indicates that Trump still views the program as a potential success story but wants further clarity on its results.
The call for greater transparency comes at a time when confidence in federal health institutions is under strain. With vaccines and treatments still under debate, the political spotlight on pharmaceutical companies is unlikely to fade soon.
As Trump presses for answers, both the pharmaceutical industry and public health agencies face growing pressure to restore public trust.
