Late Monday night, former U.S. President Donald Trump claimed that a ceasefire agreement had been reached between Israel and Iran, signaling an end to what he described as โThe 12-Day War.โ The announcement, made via his Truth Social account, stated that a complete and total ceasefire would begin in approximately six hours, lasting for twelve hours, after which the war would be officially declared over.
โCONGRATULATIONS TO EVERYONE!โ Trump wrote. โIt has been fully agreed by and between Israel and Iran that there will be a Complete and Total CEASEFIREโฆ for 12 hours, at which point the War will be considered, ENDED!โ
He further explained that Iran would initiate the ceasefire, with Israel reciprocating twelve hours later. Upon the 24-hour mark, Trump said, the international community would โsalute the end of the conflict.โ He praised both nations for showing โStamina, Courage, and Intelligenceโ to bring the war to a close, which, he claimed, could have lasted years and devastated the region.
โGod bless Israel, God bless Iran, God bless the Middle East, God bless the United States of America, and GOD BLESS THE WORLD!โ Trump concluded.
However, Trumpโs announcement was met with mixed reactions. A senior Iranian official reportedly confirmed that Tehran had agreed to a U.S.-backed ceasefire proposal brokered by Qatar. But shortly afterward, other Iranian officials publicly denied any such agreement.
โIran has not received any formal ceasefire proposal,โ one official stated, calling Trump’s claims โmisinformationโ possibly aimed at legitimizing further hostilities against Iran. The same official emphasized that Iran would continue to fight until a “just and lasting peace” is achieved.
Despite the contradictory statements, diplomatic sources say Qatar has played a central role in facilitating de-escalation talks between the two rivals. Whether the ceasefire materializes as described remains uncertain amid ongoing confusion and competing narratives.
