Fatal Accident Shakes Garden Area
A horrifying accident on Karachi’s Nishter Road left 25-year-old Shahzaib dead and his wife injured after a speeding dumper struck their motorcycle. Shahzaib, who had married just four months ago and worked in the cloth business, suffered severe facial injuries in the crash. Residents of the Garden area rushed to the scene, outraged by the incident, and set the dumper ablaze in a show of anger and protest. Fire brigade teams eventually managed to extinguish the flames.
Clash Between Residents and Dumper Association
Tensions escalated further when Dumper Association chief Liaqat Mehsood arrived at the site with armed guards. Witnesses reported that his guards fired warning shots into the air, causing panic among the crowd before fleeing the scene. In Garden Ram Swami, protesters set another dumper on fire, amplifying the chaos. Mehsood later claimed he had been attacked and announced plans for a protest and a blockade of the National Highway.
Legal Action and Government Response
Authorities acted swiftly, arresting the dumper driver and three others involved in the accident, and seizing the vehicle. Two FIRs were registered—one by Shahzaib’s father and another by social worker Abdul Qadir Memon—alleging threats, harassment, and misuse of police sirens by Mehsood and his guards. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori intervened, condemning the public display of weapons and instructing the IGP to take strict action. He assured Shahzaib’s family that justice would be served. Police confirmed that the search for the guard who fired shots remains ongoing.
The tragic death of Shahzaib has not only ignited local outrage but also raised serious questions about road safety, accountability of commercial vehicle operators, and the misuse of power by influential figures. Residents continue to demand immediate justice and stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent such incidents in the future.
