Turbat IBO
At least three terrorists were killed in an intelligence-based operation (IBO) carried out by Pakistan’s security forces in the Turbat area of Balochistan, the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), announced on Tuesday.
The operation was launched following credible intelligence reports about the presence of terrorists in the area. During the engagement, the security personnel swiftly responded and effectively targeted the location, resulting in the deaths of three terrorists.
ISPR referred to the terrorists as “khwarij,” a term often used to denote extremists who deviate from Islamic teachings, and stated that they were “sent to hell” during the exchange of fire.
The ISPR further confirmed that weapons and ammunition were recovered from the deceased militants. These individuals had reportedly been involved in several acts of violence targeting both security forces and innocent civilians in the region. Their elimination is considered a significant step in the ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in Balochistan.
Following the operation, a thorough sanitisation process was undertaken to ensure no other militants were hiding in the vicinity. The ISPR reiterated the resolve of Pakistan’s armed forces to continue rooting out terrorism and restoring peace and stability in the country.
This operation comes at a time when Pakistan is witnessing a noticeable uptick in terrorist activities. According to data released by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), the month of January 2025 saw a 42% increase in terrorist attacks compared to the previous month.
The think tank documented at least 74 attacks across the country, resulting in 91 fatalities and injuring 117 others. Among the deceased were 35 security personnel, 20 civilians, and 36 militants, while the injured included both members of the security forces and civilians.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) emerged as the most affected province, with its settled areas and tribal districts suffering a combined total of 46 attacks. Balochistan followed closely, recording 24 incidents that led to 26 deaths.
The persistent surge in militant violence highlights the importance of continued security operations such as the one conducted in Turbat to dismantle terrorist networks and protect citizens.
