School Stabbing
A disturbing incident unfolded in the town of Pirkkala, located in southwestern Finland, where three students were stabbed at a primary and middle school on Tuesday morning. The attack occurred at the Vähäjärvi School, a large institution that serves approximately 1,250 students ranging in age from six to fifteen years old.
According to local police, the suspect—who has been identified as a fellow student at the school—was swiftly apprehended shortly after the attack.
The emergency services were alerted at 10:42 am local time, prompting a rapid police response to the scene. The school was immediately placed on lockdown, with emergency vehicles surrounding the area and students being kept inside as a safety measure.
Police spokesperson Nina Juurakko confirmed to AFP that while the three victims sustained injuries, their lives were not in danger. However, she noted that authorities were currently investigating unconfirmed media reports suggesting the attacker may have specifically targeted female students. No further details about the victims’ ages or conditions have been released as of now.
Adding a chilling dimension to the incident, Finland’s public broadcaster YLE reported that the suspect may have posted an online manifesto prior to the attack.
The document allegedly details the individual’s motivations and describes the weapon used. Although YLE stated that it had accessed the manifesto, the outlet emphasized that it could not verify the authorship or authenticity of the document at this stage.
The school premises were cordoned off by police as forensic teams and investigators began collecting evidence. Authorities have yet to confirm the type of weapon used in the attack, nor have they released the identity of the suspect due to legal protections for minors.
