ISLAMABAD: The United States Embassy in Islamabad extended visa services suspension for five more days. According to the US Embassy, visa services will not be available in Pakistan from March 9 to March 13, amid growing tensions in the Middle East. The embassy, nonetheless, stated that it will provide routine and emergency services to US citizens during this period.
In a statement shared on X, the US embassy announced the cancellation of all immigrant and non-immigrant visa appointments scheduled between March 9 and March 13. Officials explained that the temporary suspension aims to address security concerns linked to growing instability in the region.
Moreover, the embassy assured applicants that those affected by the cancellations will receive instructions by email on how to reschedule their appointments. Authorities urged applicants to monitor their email accounts for further updates and guidance.
Visa Services Suspended but Citizen Assistance Continues
Despite the suspension of visa appointments, the US Embassy emphasized that it will continue to support American citizens in Pakistan. According to the statement, embassy staff remain available to handle both routine and emergency consular services for US nationals.
Meanwhile, the embassy also confirmed that all consular services at the US Consulates General in Karachi and Lahore remain suspended. The move follows earlier precautionary measures taken by US authorities in response to rising regional security risks.
Regional Tensions Prompt Security Measures
The decision comes as US-Israeli strikes on Iran and retaliatory attacks by Tehran continue to intensify across the Middle East. Iranian forces have reportedly targeted US military bases, while drone strikes have hit locations in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, according to officials.
Furthermore, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates reported Iranian drone attacks over the weekend, causing varying levels of damage. Iranian state media also claimed that the Revolutionary Guards targeted US forces at a base in Bahrain.
Earlier this week, the United States ordered the departure of non-emergency government personnel and eligible family members from its consulates in Lahore and Karachi.
Meanwhile, in its travel advisory, the US State Department kept Pakistan at Level 3, hence, urging travelers to reconsider visiting Pakistan amid regional tensions.
