KARACHI: The prime suspect in the Mustafa murder case has confessed to killing the victim, revealing chilling details of the crime, including offering the victim “a chance to escape before setting him on fire,” police disclosed during a press conference on Thursday.
Mustafa Amir, a resident of Karachi, went missing on January 6. Days later, his charred body was found in a car in Hub, Balochistan. The suspect was arrested and sent to police custody on a four-day remand by Karachi’s Anti-Terrorism Court-II earlier this week.
During the investigation, officials raided the suspect’s bungalow in Khayaban-e-Momin, Defence, Karachi, where they discovered a stick allegedly used in the crime. The suspect admitted to torturing Mustafa with an iron rod for two hours, leaving him severely injured and bleeding from the head and knees.
The prime suspect claimed he had invited another individual, Shiraz, to his bungalow on January 6. Mustafa was called to join them, but upon his arrival, he was brutally assaulted. The two suspects then loaded Mustafa, still alive, into his car and drove him to Hub. There, they allegedly doused him in petrol and taunted him to escape before setting him on fire. Mustafa, unable to move due to his injuries, succumbed to the flames.
Following the crime, the prime suspect reportedly walked back to Karachi, hitchhiking along the way.
In light of these revelations, the Sindh Health Department has formed a three-member medical board to oversee the exhumation of Mustafaโs body for further investigation, including a post-mortem and DNA analysis. The exhumation is scheduled for Friday at 9 a.m.
Further inquiries revealed that the prime suspect, Armaghan, is a repeat offender with a criminal history involving extortion, kidnapping, drug dealing, and illegal weapons possession.
Mustafa’s mother, meanwhile, has accused her sonโs girlfriend of involvement in the murder, which police are still investigating.
Background
The investigation has uncovered that Mustafa and Armaghan, who were childhood friends, had a falling out over a girl during New Yearโs Eve. On January 6, Armaghan allegedly lured Mustafa to his home under false pretenses, where the violent attack took place. After killing him, Armaghan and Shiraz transported the body to Hub, burned the car, and disposed of the remains.
Police have recovered modern weapons from Armaghanโs residence, and the Counter-Terrorism Department is tracing their origin. The AVCC police have also sought FIA assistance in analyzing data from a laptop seized during the raid on the suspectโs home.
The investigation continues as authorities piece together details of this gruesome crime.
