ISLAMABAD: Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen Syed Asim Munir met with the President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi and other leaders. Both sides emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation at the shared borders and combating terrorist groups.
During his two-day visit to Iran, Gen Munir announced that “good agreements” were made to strengthen border security. He expressed Pakistan’s commitment to implementing these measures swiftly for sustainable security.
Gen Munir highlighted the significance of the agreements reached with Iranian officials. He expressed hope that the cooperation would bring visible benefits to the people of both countries soon.
Following his meetings with the Iranian president and foreign minister, Gen Munir engaged with Iran’s top military leadership, including Maj Gen Mohammad Bagheri, the chief of general staff of armed forces.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated on Sunday that both sides agreed that terrorism posed a common threat to the region and specifically to both countries.

Both sides pledged to eradicate terrorism in border areas through intelligence sharing and effective actions against terrorist networks. They also aimed to enhance cooperation in the security domain and explore opportunities for collaboration in the energy sector.
Iranian President Raisi stated that Iran’s strategy is to transform secure borders into economically prosperous borders by developing border markets and cooperation in the energy sector. Strengthening relations with neighboring, aligned, and Muslim countries is a priority in Iran’s foreign policy.
Accelerating the implementation of bilateral agreements was emphasized to enhance economic, commercial, and political cooperation between Iran and Pakistan. Raisi highlighted the importance of countering efforts by external forces to disrupt relations between regional countries. He also emphasized the need for strengthened bilateral and regional cooperation.
Gen Munir praised Iran’s approach to strengthening relations with its neighbors, particularly Pakistan.
In a separate meeting, Gen Munir and the Iranian foreign minister emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation at shared borders and combating terrorist groups.
They discussed the evolving dynamics in the region and expressed hope for deeper bilateral relations.
Gen Munir acknowledged the religious, cultural, and historical commonalities between the two countries. He welcomed the expansion of relations across all areas.
The discussions also included topics such as expanding economic relations, the Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline, and electricity exports.
