PESHAWAR: Terror incidents in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have fallen sharply by 65 percent since the launch of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq last month, police said on Saturday.
According to a fresh report by KP police, 240 terror incidents took place in the province before the operation started. After the operation began, the number dropped to just 80. In total, 323 terror incidents have been reported in the province so far this year.
Security forces launched Operation Ghazab lil-Haq following repeated attacks from across the border in Afghanistan. As of March 15, officials say forces have killed 684 militants and injured more than 912 others during the operation. They also destroyed 229 tanks, armoured vehicles, and artillery guns, along with 252 terrorist posts.
Information Minister Ataullah Tarar and Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry both credited the operation for the sharp decline in attacks inside Pakistan. Chaudhry said the government is determined to wipe out terrorism โat all costsโ.
Moreover, KP Chief Secretary Shahab Ali Shah told Geo News that all federal and provincial institutions are now working together. โAll stakeholders are on the same page in the fight against terrorism,โ he said.
Overall, the rise in terror attacks in KP and Balochistan began after the Afghan Taliban took over in 2021. Pakistan has repeatedly asked Kabul to stop terrorist groups from using Afghan soil to launch attacks, but those requests went unanswered. The current operation started after border clashes and a short-lived ceasefire that failed to deliver results.
