The Tehran Times has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent announcement of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, calling it a deliberate fabrication aimed at manipulating Iranian public sentiment and pressuring the government into submission.
In the early hours of Tuesday, Trump took to social media to declare that Iran and Israel had “fully agreed” to a ceasefire set to take effect within approximately 12 hours. However, Iranian officials and political analysts quickly dismissed the statement as false and politically motivated.
According to Tehran Times sources, Trump’s claim is viewed in Tehran as part of a broader U.S. strategy to create confusion, provoke internal dissent within Iran, and weaken the country’s defensive posture.
The newspaper notes that Trump has a record of making misleading statements about Iran, including his earlier claim that he needed “two weeks” to decide on military action—despite having already coordinated with Israel to target Iranian nuclear, military, and civilian infrastructure.
Mahdi Mohammadi, a senior advisor to the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament, was among the first to respond publicly. “The U.S. and Israel are lying,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). “They want Iran to let down its guard so they can escalate the tensions.”
The ongoing war between Iran and Israel erupted on June 13, following Israeli strikes on Iranian residential areas and nuclear facilities. At the time, Iranian diplomats were preparing for a sixth round of indirect negotiations with Washington—a process now widely viewed in Tehran as having been exploited in bad faith.
Iranian officials maintain that no formal ceasefire proposal has been received and that they remain committed to defending the country until a just and equitable peace is achieved.
