Renowned Pakistani filmmaker Syed Noor has opened up about how his blockbuster film Ghunghat not only reshaped his career but also changed the course of his personal life.
In a recent interview, Noor recalled how unexpected casting changes led to the pairing of Shaan and Saima, and ultimately, to his lifelong relationship with the actress.
Casting Twists that Changed Everything
Originally, Noman Ijaz was set to play the male lead, while Neeli was selected as the heroine. However, both actors backed out before filming began. Noor revealed that Noman’s withdrawal opened the door for Shaan, though some distributors initially resisted his casting and even demanded refunds. Despite the pushback, Noor stood firm, insisting on Shaan, who went on to deliver a memorable performance.
Similarly, when Neeli exited the project, the lead role was offered to Saima. This unexpected change not only elevated Saima’s career but also marked the beginning of her bond with Syed Noor.
A Film that Changed Two Lives
Noor admitted that during the filming of Ghunghat, he fell in love with Saima. Their chemistry extended beyond the screen, and after the film’s huge success, the two eventually tied the knot.
It is worth noting that Syed Noor was first married to Rukhsana Noor, with whom he had a son. Following her passing, he began a new chapter in life with Saima—both as his partner in marriage and in the film industry.
Ghunghat remains a landmark in Pakistani cinema, not just for its on-screen triumph but also for being the film that brought together one of Lollywood’s most notable couples.
