Australian-American actress Sydney Sweeney has revealed details of a difficult chapter in her teenage years, sharing that her family lived in a Holiday Inn for over eight months after declaring bankruptcy.
In a recent interview with The Times, the 27-year-old actress recounted how, at age 16, her family lost their home in Washington in 2013 and relocated to a one-bedroom hotel room in Burbank, Los Angeles. Sweeney, her parents, and younger brother all shared the cramped space, which lacked basic features like a kitchen or balcony.
“It felt like my entire life,” she said, reflecting on the experience. Still, she and her brother tried to find humor in the situation, joking that they were living their own version of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, the Disney series about two boys residing in a hotel. She fondly recalled the kindness of hotel staff, who would often prepare grilled cheese sandwiches for the family.
Despite the hardship, Sweeney’s rise to stardom has been extraordinary. From acclaimed performances in The White Lotus and The Handmaid’s Tale to her box-office hit Anyone But You, she has become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand young talents. Her success has translated into an impressive real estate portfolio, with properties in Bel Air, the Florida Keys, the Pacific Northwest, and Los Angeles.
Sweeney also recently confirmed that she is no longer engaged to producer Jonathan Davino and is currently single. Professionally, she is focused on upcoming projects such as the new series Echo Valley, while continuing to expand her business ventures and investments.
In a bold marketing move that drew widespread attention, Sweeney teamed up with men’s grooming brand Dr. Squatch to launch a limited-edition soap featuring droplets of her own bathwater. The stunt, which leaned into internet memes and fan fascination, showcased her playful sense of humor and savvy approach to self-branding.
