According to the Valais Cantonal Police, the fire started at around 1:30 am local time inside a bar known as Le Constellation. At the time of the incident, more than 100 people were inside the building celebrating the start of 2026. As flames spread rapidly, panic broke out, and guests attempted to escape amid smoke and confusion.

Police spokesperson Gaëtan Lathion confirmed that the incident resulted in multiple fatalities and a large number of injuries.
