BANNU: A suicide car bomb attack struck the Domel Police Station in Bannu, killing at least five civilians and injuring 13 others, including a police officer, officials confirmed on Friday. The victims included four members of the same family — a husband, wife, and their two children.
According to initial reports, an explosives-laden vehicle rammed into the rear side of the police station, triggering a massive explosion followed by an exchange of gunfire. The blast’s intensity was so powerful that it was heard miles away, causing widespread panic in the area.
As a result, the explosion destroyed the police station’s sentry post and reduced a significant portion of the building to rubble. Moreover, nearby residential areas suffered severe damage, with several houses collapsing and residents trapped under debris.
Rescue teams from Rescue 1122 responded promptly and shifted the injured to nearby hospitals, where some remain in critical condition. District Emergency Officer Bakhtullah Wazir confirmed the casualties and said rescue efforts were ongoing.
However, continuous rainfall hampered relief operations, slowing efforts to clear debris and locate survivors. Nevertheless, once the firing subsided, rescue personnel launched a full-scale operation, while local mosques made announcements urging residents to donate blood and assist in امدادی activities.
Meanwhile, security forces cordoned off the area and initiated a clearance operation to secure the site. Authorities are still gathering details about the extent of damage and casualties.
Bannu has witnessed repeated security incidents in recent months. Furthermore, according to the Centre for Research and Security Studies, violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa increased significantly, with fatalities rising from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025, highlighting a growing security challenge in the region.
