Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on the United States to abandon โthe language of ultimatumsโ and return to negotiations with Iran, following a phone call with his Iranian counterpart.
According to Moscow, Lavrov conveyed this message during talks with Abbas Araghchi on Sunday. The appeal came after U.S. President Donald Trump warned of possible strikes on Iranian infrastructure if Tehran failed to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
In its official readout, Russia expressed hope that ongoing diplomatic efforts by several countries would help reduce tensions. Furthermore, Lavrov stressed that de-escalation would depend on Washington shifting back to dialogue rather than threats.
During the conversation, both ministers also urged the United States to halt what they described as โillegal attacksโ on civilian infrastructure. In particular, they referenced the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, where Russian technicians have been working.
Meanwhile, Russian authorities have begun evacuating personnel from the site. State media reported that nearly 200 Russian workers were being relocated after a projectile linked to U.S.-Israeli operations struck near the facility.
The development underscores growing concerns about the safety of foreign nationals and critical infrastructure amid escalating military activity. As a result, Russia has intensified calls for restraint and renewed diplomacy.
Overall, Moscowโs stance highlights widening international pressure to prevent further escalation and bring the ุงูุฃุฒู ุฉ back to diplomatic channels.
