ISLAMABAD: US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering commitment to collaborate with Pakistan in addressing the shared threat posed by terrorist groups in the region.
Miller made this statement during a press briefing in response to a question regarding the recent heinous suicide attack at the workers’ convention of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F) in Khar, Bajaur’s capital area, resulting in over 50 lives lost and around 150 injured.

Despite the devastating attack, Miller expresses his belief in the resilience of the Pakistani people and their capacity to recover.
He emphasized the US government’s continued support for Pakistan in combatting terrorism while promoting the rule of law and human rights, acknowledging that the Pakistani people have endured significant suffering at the hands of terrorists. He said, “The Pakistani people have suffered greatly at the hands of terrorists.”
During the briefing, Miller also discussed the recent visit of the Chinese vice premier to Islamabad for talks on CPEC. He asserted that the United States remains committed to support Pakistan’s economic development, strengthening trade and investment ties with the country.
However, he emphasized the importance of transparency, sustainable financing practices, and safeguarding national data security to ensure mutual benefits for Pakistan and its partners.
Miller stated, “The US welcomes trade and investment that foster development and growth,” underscoring the significance of responsible economic practices in bilateral relations.
He further added that Pakistan and the United States have maintained a close partnership for an extended period in combatting terrorism and addressing regional security challenges.
Miller’s remarks emphasized the lasting commitment of the US government to collaborate with Pakistan actively, seeking to eradicate terrorism and foster stability in the region.
Miler added, “We remain committed to working with Pakistan to address the shared threat posed by terrorist groups throughout the region.”
He continued by affirming that the US will persist in supporting the Pakistani Government’s endeavors to combat terrorism, ensuring it aligns with the rule of law and safeguards human rights.
