ISLAMABAD: The State Bank of Pakistan has launched a probe into the circulation of a video on the social media about the half-printed currency notes.
In the video, purportedly filmed by a person identifying as the manager of the Model Colony branch of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), two Rs1,000 currency notes with incomplete printing on their backside were displayed.
The manager expressed uncertainty regarding the number of dispatched bundles and revealed that these particular notes were returned by a customer, bringing the issue to light. He zoomed in on another bank employee inspecting a bundle of currency notes, revealing that every packet contained at least two similarly incomplete notes.
Concerns arose among social media users and the public after a video recorded by a bank employee surfaced, showcasing partially printed banknotes. Prompted by this, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced an investigation on Tuesday.
The video quickly gained traction on social media platforms, garnering thousands of views and comments within hours.
Social media users urged caution when dealing with cash from banks and ATMs, emphasizing the need for personal verification. Some criticized the printing staff at the Pakistan Security Printing Press Karachi and called for accountability from the SBP.
The video prompted discussions in various Facebook groups, with some questioning the bank manager’s decision to post the video on social media instead of following proper reporting channels.
How this has happened, the State Bank of Pakistan has started investigating the matter.
