Setback Hits Bangladesh Just Before First Test with Pakistan

Bangladesh

As Bangladesh prepares to face Pakistan in the first Test match, the visitors have encountered a significant setback with the news that key batter Mahmudul Hasan Joy will miss the two-match series.

According to Cricbuzz, Hasan’s absence is due to a groin injury he sustained while fielding during a four-day match against Pakistan Shaheens in Islamabad.

Hasan, a promising 23-year-old cricketer, had a solid performance in the series of four-day matches leading up to the Tests.

He scored 65 runs in the first innings against the Shaheens and had contributed 69 and 65 runs in previous fixtures, demonstrating his good form and readiness for the upcoming series.

However, the injury to his right groin has ruled him out of action for three weeks, as confirmed by BCB chief physician Debashish Chowdhury.

“We have received a mail regarding Mahmudul where it is stated that he sustained an injury to his right groin and as a result, he is being rested for three weeks,” Chowdhury told Cricbuzz.

The absence of Hasan is a considerable blow for Bangladesh as they gear up for the Test series, which forms part of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25.

Both teams are eager to perform well and improve their standings on the WTC points table.

The first Test match is scheduled to commence on August 21 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, with the second Test set to take place from August 30 to September 4 at Karachi’s National Stadium.

The squads for the series have been announced. For Pakistan, the team will be led by Shan Masood and includes players such as Saud Shakeel, Aamir Jamal (subject to fitness), Abdullah Shafique, Abrar Ahmed, Babar Azam, Kamran Ghulam, Khurram Shahzad, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Ali, Muhammad Hurraira, Mohammad Rizwan, Naseem Shah, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Bangladesh’s squad will be captained by Najmul Hossain Shanto and features Mahmudullah, Zakir Hasan, Shadman Islam, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Litton Das, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Taijul Islam, Nazmul Hossain, Nurul Hasan, Ebadot Hossain, Hasan Mahmud, Taskin Ahmed, and Khaled Ahmed.

The series is highly anticipated, and the absence of Mahmudul Hasan Joy may shift the dynamics for Bangladesh as they aim to compete effectively against Pakistan.
