RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has unveiled plans for the Esports World Cup, a groundbreaking global event set to debut in Riyadh during the summer of 2024 and continue annually.
Positioned as the largest of its kind, the Esports tournament will play a pivotal role in fostering the gaming and esports industry, further establishing Saudi Arabia as a prominent international hub for esports.
This exciting development aligns seamlessly with the objectives of Saudi Arabia’s National Gaming and Esports Strategy, which aims to boost the sector’s contribution to the Kingdom’s GDP by over SR50 billion ($13.3 billion) by 2030, along with the creation of 39,000 new employment opportunities.
Complementing this announcement, the Crown Prince has introduced the Esports World Cup Foundation, a non-profit organization that seeks to facilitate cooperation among various stakeholders in the esports world.
These significant initiatives were disclosed during “The New Global Sports Conference” in the capital of Saudi Arabia.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman emphasized, “The Esports World Cup represents the natural progression of Saudi Arabia’s journey toward becoming the ultimate global destination for gaming and esports. It promises an unparalleled esports experience that will redefine industry standards.”
He further noted, “This competition will contribute to achieving our Vision 2030 objectives, including economic diversification, the growth of the tourism sector, the generation of new job opportunities across various industries, and the provision of world-class entertainment for citizens, residents
