Saim Ayub and Sufiyan Muqeem Shine as Pakistan Secures Historic ODI Whitewash Over South Africa

ODI Whitewash

Pakistan achieved a remarkable 3-0 ODI series whitewash against South Africa on Sunday at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. The visitors capped off the series with a memorable 36-run victory in the rain-affected third match, determined by the DLS method.

South Africa’s Innings

Saim Ayub’s commanding century and Sufiyan Muqeem’s brilliant debut spell, claiming 4 wickets, were instrumental in Pakistan’s triumph. Despite Heinrich Klaasen’s valiant 81, South Africa managed only 271 runs in 42 overs, chasing a target of 309.

Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah took key early wickets, setting the tone. Muqeem’s exceptional performance dismantled South Africa’s middle order, including the dismissals of Kagiso Rabada, Marco Jansen, and Kwena Maphaka. He sealed the win by bowling Maphaka, securing the historic series sweep.

Temba Bavuma and Tony de Zorzi fell early, putting South Africa on the back foot. Bavuma was caught by Saim Ayub off Naseem Shah’s outswinger, while De Zorzi succumbed to a sharp bouncer from Shaheen Afridi.

Pakistan’s Innings

Earlier, Saim Ayub’s brilliant 101, his second century of the series, laid the foundation for Pakistan’s competitive total of 308-9. He was supported by half-centuries from Babar Azam (57) and Mohammad Rizwan (52).

Ayub reached his third ODI century in just nine innings, showcasing maturity and skill. His 100 runs off 91 balls included crisp drives and resilient stroke play, solidifying his place as a key player for Pakistan.

The innings saw a late collapse as South Africa’s bowlers, led by Marco Jansen and Kagiso Rabada, struck crucial blows. Jansen dismissed Tayyab Tahir and Mohammad Hasnain, while Rabada claimed the scalps of Salman Agha and Shaheen Afridi. Despite the setbacks, Pakistan’s strong top order ensured a challenging target.
