Renowned diplomat and former PCB chief Shaharyar Khan passes away at the age of 89

Veteran diplomat and past PCB chief, Shaharyar Khan, has sadly passed away at the age of 89 in Lahore, early on a Saturday morning.

The Foreign Office commemorated the esteemed diplomat, who held various positions such as foreign secretary, ambassador, and high commissioner during his illustrious tenure from 1957 to 1994 at the foreign ministry. They recognized and celebrated his “immense contributions in safeguarding Pakistan’s diplomatic interests.”

Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Qazi expressed his profound grief over Khan’s demise and commended him as an exceptional diplomat from Pakistan.

Qazi mentioned that the departed individual had bequeathed a “substantial heritage of achievements and safeguarding as well as enhancing Pakistan’s welfare.”

Pakistan’s UN mission expressed profound sorrow over Khan’s demise, considering it a significant setback for the nation. They celebrated him as an exceptional public servant who devotedly served Pakistan throughout his career.

Simultaneously, the PCB conveyed profound grief and sorrow upon the demise of their ex-chairman, who had held the position for two terms.

He served as chairman of the board from December 2003 to October 2006 and from August 2014 to August 2017, according to a PCB statement.

It is anticipated that Abdul Razzaq will join the selection committee

Previously, versatile sportsman Abdul Razzaq was anticipated to join the selection panel. On Friday, it was revealed that Chief Selector Wahab Riaz intended to add a fresh face to the committee.

Razzaq was reportedly contacted concerning this matter, according to sources. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is anticipated to reveal the selection committee in the near future.

In Test matches, he accumulated an impressive 1,946 runs and took 100 wickets. Additionally, Razzaq achieved 5,080 runs and captured 269 wickets in One Day Internationals (ODIs).

The 44-year-old individual accomplished an impressive feat by accumulating 393 runs and securing 20 wickets in the T20I matches.
