Regime change at Pakistan Cricket Board completed: Najam Sethi

ISLAMABAD: Newly-appointed chairman of the management committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Najam Sethi said that the “cricket regime headed by Ramiz Raja is no more”.

Sethi said, “The cricket regime headed by Ramiz Raja is no more. The 2014 PCB constitution stands restored.”

Najam Sethi said the management committee will “work tirelessly” to revive first-class cricket.

“Thousands of cricketers will be employed again. The famine in cricket will come to an end,” said Sethi.

Najam Sethi issued his tweets after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif constituted a 14-member committee headed by Sethi, to take over the management of the national sports body for 120 days before conducting elections under the 2014 constitution.

Recent failure of the cricket team in three Test matches series against England and defeat in the World Cup and T20 Cup in 2022 ultimately led to the change of regime at the PCB.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif gave approval for the appointment of Najam Sethi as chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

The Premier approved the appointment of Najam Sethi, a renowned media personality and former chairman of PCB, to replace Ramiz Raja, the incumbent chairman.

The Prime Minister Office will issue four different notifications pertaining to new chairman’s appointment and change in PCB laws.

One of the new notifications will abolish the 2019 constitution of Pakistan Cricket Board.

Meanwhile, the other will notify the termination of the two names nominated for the top slot of the PCB under the 2019 constitution. The third notification will restore the 2014 constitution.

The fourth notification then will notify the establishment of a “set up” to run the existing board.

Interestingly, many media reports and speculations were surfacing in recent weeks about the replacement of Ramiz Raja.

Finally, the Prime Minister of Pakistan has ended speculations by approving the appointment of Najam Sethi on Wednesday as new Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board.

A few weeks ago, Ramiz Raja had claimed that the coalition government has asked him to continue to work as Chairman of the PCB.

Ramiz Raja was appointed PCB chairman on September 13, 2021 by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Najam Sethi, who is considered a close confident of Sharifs, will take the charge of PCB chairman soon after the issuance of notification.
