The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, has sanctioned the introduction of the Yo-Yo fitness test as a criterion for team selection. From now on, the selection process, including regional contracts, will hinge on passing fitness tests.
Cricketers at the test, international, and national levels must clear all fitness tests, which encompass the Yo-Yo test, a push-ups test, and a 2 km running test. The initial phase of these fitness tests will be conducted nationwide starting July 11. Furthermore, obtaining central contracts will also depend on successfully passing these fitness assessments.
Explained: What is the Yo-Yo Test?
The Yo-Yo test, an adaptation of the Beep test, is a running aerobic fitness assessment. It involves running between two sets of cones placed 20 meters apart (the length of a cricket pitch). When a beep sounds, the player must reach the cone on the opposite side by the next beep and then return to the starting cone before the third beep sounds. Completing this round trip constitutes one shuttle.
The Yo-Yo test has gained prominence in recent years, becoming a crucial benchmark for player selection.
