PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi Announces Formation of Committees for Champions Trophy 2025

Champions Trophy 2025

LAHORE: PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has taken a significant step towards the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by instructing the immediate formation of essential committees, on Saturday.

This directive was issued during a meeting at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, which Naqvi chaired. The meeting focused on key preparations for the prestigious international tournament and included discussions on the ongoing Champions One Day Cup currently taking place in Faisalabad, as well as a review of the stadium upgrade project.

During the meeting, Naqvi stressed the urgency of creating the necessary committees and assigning clear responsibilities to ensure a prompt start to operations.

He stated, “With some of the world’s top teams set to compete, our arrangements must be flawless.” This sentiment underscores the PCB’s commitment to delivering a successful event that meets international standards.

In addition to the formation of committees, Naqvi emphasized the need to accelerate the stadium renovation project. He urged all involved parties to ensure that the upgrades are completed within the designated timeframe, enhancing the viewing experience for cricket fans.

“Once the renovations are done, the spectators will enjoy the matches even more,” he noted, highlighting the PCB’s dedication to improving facilities for fans.

Naqvi also commended the enthusiasm displayed by the people of Faisalabad during the Champions Cup matches, hinting at the potential for hosting Pakistan Super League (PSL) matches in the city in the future.

The meeting was attended by several key PCB officials, including Chief Operating Officer Salman Naseer, Chief Financial Officer Javed Murtaza, and various directors and stakeholders.

Looking ahead, Naqvi is scheduled to meet with Jay Shah, the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), in October during the final match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai.

This meeting is expected to focus on logistical arrangements and the participation of the Indian cricket team in the Champions Trophy.

The PCB is currently awaiting final approval for the tournament schedule, having made provisional bookings based on the proposed dates.

They have urged the ICC to finalize and sign the schedule promptly to facilitate smooth preparations for the event. An official announcement regarding the schedule is anticipated by the end of October.

Earlier this month, an ICC delegation visited the venues selected for the Champions Trophy, including Karachi, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Lahore, to review security arrangements and protocols.

The delegation, which included key ICC officials, expressed satisfaction with the preparations made for next year’s tournament. This positive feedback reflects the PCB’s efforts to ensure a secure and well-organized event, further contributing to the excitement surrounding the Champions Trophy 2025.
