Pakistan Football Team Arrives in Jordan for World Cup Qualifying Away Fixture

The Pakistan men’s football team arrived in Jordan on Sunday to participate in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Round 2 Qualifier away fixture against the Middle Eastern side. The match is scheduled to take place on March 26.

Jordan secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Pakistan at the Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad during their first qualifying encounter last Thursday. This match marked the first visit of Jordan’s football team to Pakistan for a football match in 18 years.

In preparation for their second qualifying match, the Pakistan team departed for Jordan in the early hours of Sunday. The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) confirmed the team’s arrival in Amman via a private airline flight through Doha.

The Pakistan vs. Jordan away match is slated to kick off at 12pm Pakistan time on March 26.

However, Pakistan faced a setback as the PFF announced the suspension of Pakistani defender Abdullah Iqbal for the crucial game due to accumulated yellow cards in recent matches. Iqbal received his first yellow card during the initial round of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers match against Cambodia in Islamabad on October 17, 2023. Subsequently, he received another yellow card during a home match against Jordan in the second round of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers on March 21, 2024.

Despite this setback, Pakistan made history last October by defeating Cambodia 1-0 to secure their first-ever FIFA World Cup qualifier victory in Islamabad. However, Pakistan suffered a 4-0 loss to Saudi Arabia in the second round following their victory over Cambodia.
