KARACHI: Pakistan’s celebrated squash player Nasir Iqbal has further solidified his impressive career by winning the Bega Open 2024 title in Australia.

Iqbal’s recent triumph marks his 17th career title and adds to his growing list of achievements in the sport.

His performance in the final was nothing short of dominant, as he defeated Hong Kong’s second-seed, Matthew Lai, with a commanding score of 11-6, 11-1, and 11-3.

The match, which lasted just 24 minutes, underscored Iqbal’s exceptional skill and control on the court.

The victory at the Bega Open not only earned Iqbal a prestigious title but also a $12,000 prize. This win is particularly noteworthy as it is part of a string of recent successes for Iqbal.

He has won four out of his last five tournaments, showcasing his consistency and high level of performance.

Following his win in Australia, Iqbal is set to compete in upcoming tournaments in Malaysia, continuing his impressive run.

Iqbal’s path to the Bega Open final was marked by a thrilling semi-final encounter with Switzerland’s Robin Gadola.

In this intense match, Iqbal initially secured the first game but faced a setback when Gadola equalized in the second game.

Demonstrating his resilience and tactical acumen, Iqbal bounced back to dominate the remaining games, winning with scores of 6-11, 11-4, 2-11, and 3-11.

This victory adds to Iqbal’s already stellar year, during which he has shown remarkable form and improvement.

His performance has been reflected in his climb up the PSA rankings, where he is currently positioned at 116th globally.
