Mohammad Amir Breaks Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s Record for Most Maidens in T20s

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has surpassed India’s Bhuvneshwar Kumar to set a new record for the most maidens bowled by a pacer in T20 internationals.

Amir achieved this milestone while playing for the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 against the Barbados Royals. During the opening over of the match, Amir’s exceptional bowling prevented Rakheem Cornwall, a powerful hitter, from scoring a run. Cornwall managed only a leg bye off Amir’s final delivery of the over.

With this maiden over, Amir’s tally of maidens in T20s has reached 25, surpassing the previous record held by Bhuvneshwar Kumar (24). Amir now leads ahead of other notable bowlers, including Trent Boult of New Zealand (17), Wahab Riaz (21) and Mohammad Irfan (20) of Pakistan, and Jasprit Bumrah of India (22).

In the all-time rankings, Amir is now third, trailing only behind Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan (26) and West Indies’ Sunil Narine (30).

Most Maidens in T20 Career

  1. Sunil Narine (West Indies): 30
  2. Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh): 26
  3. Mohammad Amir (Pakistan): 25
  4. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (India): 24
  5. Jasprit Bumrah (India): 21
  6. Samuel Badree (West Indies): 21
  7. Wahab Riaz (Pakistan): 21
  8. Mohammad Irfan (Pakistan): 20

Earlier this year, Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi also broke a record held by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, achieving the highest number of first-over wickets in T20s. Afridi surpassed Kumar’s record with his dismissal of Tim Robinson in the first T20I against New Zealand, raising his tally to 49 first-over wickets.
