Former Pakistan Test head coach Jason Gillespie has publicly expressed his frustration with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), revealing that the board has yet to settle his outstanding payments—four months after his resignation from the role.
In an exclusive interview with a local digital media outlet, Gillespie shared his disappointment regarding the delay, emphasizing the professional commitment he brought to the position during his brief but eventful tenure. “It’s disheartening,” the former Australian fast bowler remarked. “I served the role with full commitment, and it’s unfortunate that the dues are still pending. I truly hope the matter is resolved soon.”
Gillespie was appointed as the head coach of Pakistan’s Test team in April 2024. Midway through the year, he was also entrusted with the responsibility of managing the ODI squad, following the abrupt resignation of white-ball coach Gary Kirsten.
Despite his initial enthusiasm, Gillespie’s tenure was plagued by internal issues and communication breakdowns within the PCB’s management structure.
Reflecting on his resignation in December 2024, Gillespie pointed to a series of administrative decisions that, he claimed, undermined team unity and coaching effectiveness. “There were a series of unilateral decisions by the PCB administration,” he noted. “One of the most glaring was appointing Mohammad Rizwan as captain without any consultation. Moves like these damaged the team’s cohesion and made it increasingly difficult to build a stable, winning culture.”
He further criticized the broader administrative approach of the PCB, describing Pakistan cricket as being caught in a recurring pattern of poor planning and inconsistent leadership. “It’s a cycle that needs to be broken if Pakistan cricket is to reach its true potential,” Gillespie stated.
Following his departure, former fast bowler Aqib Javed stepped in as interim head coach. However, with the team struggling under his leadership, the PCB has since reopened the search for a permanent replacement, recently advertising the role amid growing concerns over performance and stability.
The ongoing payment dispute has now cast a fresh spotlight on the PCB’s internal operations, raising serious questions about its management of foreign coaching contracts and its ability to maintain professional standards in international cricket.
