Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Jay Shah unveiled the schedule for the eagerly awaited men’s Asia Cup. Pakistan will host four matches, with Multan and Lahore as the selected venues.
The tournament will commence in Multan, where Pakistan, the host of this year’s Asia Cup, will face Nepal on August 30. The other three matches in Pakistan will be held at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium, including a Super 4s match.
The final will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on September 17.
An intriguing clash between Pakistan and India is slated for September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Both teams are in the same group, along with Nepal, while the other group comprises Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.
Interestingly, Jay Shah, who also serves as the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), shared the schedule on Twitter just moments before the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was scheduled to officially unveil the event. In his tweet, Shah emphasized that the Asia Cup symbolizes unity among diverse nations. He wrote that celebrates cricketing excellence while fostering strong bonds.
Earlier this year, the ACC gave its approval to a hybrid model for the Asia Cup. Najam Sethi, the former PCB Management Committee chairman proposed it.
The tournament will have two phases as per the hybrid model. The first phase will take place in Pakistan, and the second phase will be in Sri Lanka.
The final schedule was confirmed during a meeting between Zaka Ashraf, who succeeded Najam Sethi as chairman, and Jay Shah on the sidelines of the chief executives’ committee (CEC) meeting of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in Durban, South Africa, last week.
