Special Prosecutor Zulfiqar Arain has requested the inclusion of Mustafa Amir’s mother and father in the investigation of his murder case. In a letter addressed to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), and the investigating officer, Arain called for a thorough investigation into the prime suspect, Armaghan, and the victim, Mustafa.
Arain’s letter raises concerns about the potential links of the prime suspect to terrorism, money laundering, and anti-state elements. He urged authorities to investigate whether Armaghan and his associates were involved in supporting terrorists, funding terrorism, or participating in criminal networks linked to drug trafficking.
The prosecutor emphasized the need to question the close associates of both the victim and the suspect, both male and female, and to conduct a detailed examination of the suspect’s properties, businesses, bank accounts, and travel records, as well as those of the victim.
The letter also called for forensic analysis of the weapons and other recovered items, including the mobile phone used for the ransom call and the number that received it. It requested the inclusion of a variety of evidence in the case, such as the weapons, ammunition, sniper rifle, 64 laptops, walkie-talkies, digital safes, and two identification cards found at the suspect’s residence. Arain questioned the origin of such a large stockpile of weapons and suggested that local security forces and intelligence agencies be consulted to uncover the source.
Additionally, Arain raised concerns about why local police failed to monitor criminal activities in the area and requested forensic analysis of CCTV footage from the suspect’s home and its surroundings. He also called for the inclusion of relevant social media, print, and broadcast media content as evidence.
The prosecutor further recommended investigating the suspect’s landlord to clarify the terms of the rental agreement and to understand why commercial activities were taking place in a residential area. He stressed that photographs of the crime scene and other key locations should be obtained as part of the evidence.
Background on the Mustafa Murder Case
The Mustafa Amir murder case has become a major news story, with a 23-year-old Karachi resident allegedly abducted on January 6, 2025. The case gained significant media attention after the Sindh police held a press conference in February. Six days after the kidnapping, the Balochistan police discovered a charred body in a burned car, which was later identified as Mustafa’s by the Edhi Foundation.
According to police, Mustafa’s friends were responsible for his death, allegedly stuffing his body into the trunk of his car and setting it on fire in Balochistan’s Dureji area. The police also claimed to have arrested Sheraz, a friend of the prime suspect, Armaghan, who provided information during the investigation.
Armaghan was arrested during a raid at a bungalow in Karachi’s DHA after a ransom call was made to the victim’s family, demanding Rs 20 million. The investigation revealed that the conflict between Mustafa and Armaghan may have been over a woman, with Mustafa’s mother accusing the woman of being responsible for her son’s death. The woman allegedly fled to the United States after the incident.
The investigation into the case has revealed that Armaghan has a history of criminal activities, including extortion, kidnapping, drug dealing, and illegal possession of weapons. A high-tech facility at his house, reportedly used as a software house, has also raised questions. Armaghan’s father, Kamran Qureshi, defended his son, claiming that Mustafa had been involved in selling drugs to his son and accusing a police officer of orchestrating the conspiracy.
