New jobs for Skilled Pakistani Workers
South Korea has raised Pakistan’s jobs quota by 30% for 2025, increasing the number of allowed workers from 2,400 to 5,400. This decision follows productive negotiations between Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and South Korea’s Human Resource Development (HRD) Mission.
Strengthening Bilateral Workforce Collaboration
The expanded quota falls under South Korea’s Employment Permit System (EPS), which helps address labor shortages in key sectors. These include manufacturing, agriculture, and construction. Pakistani workers entering under the EPS receive E-9 visas and must demonstrate strong language and technical skills.
Officials stated that the increase reflects South Korea’s confidence in the reliability and performance of Pakistani labor. They highlighted that Pakistani workers have maintained high productivity and discipline in various industries.
Transparent Selection and Training Process
The HRD Mission’s continuous work in skill development and vocational training has further strengthened this partnership. To qualify, Pakistani candidates must clear two essential assessments: the EPS-TOPIK (Korean language test) and a trade skills examination.
Pakistan’s Overseas Employment Corporation (OEC) manages the recruitment process. It ensures fairness, transparency, and compliance with Korean employment regulations. OEC also provides guidance to workers about rights, duties, and workplace ethics before departure.
Boosting Employment and Bilateral Ties
Officials believe the quota expansion will create more job opportunities and enhance people-to-people ties between Pakistan and South Korea. The step marks another milestone in strengthening bilateral cooperation in labor mobility and workforce development.
