Miller powers Proteas with blazing fifty
A disciplined bowling display after a fiery half-century from David Miller guided South Africa to a commanding 76-run win over India in their Super Eight match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday.
The defeat ended Indiaโs 13-match unbeaten run in T20 World Cups and marked their first loss of the tournament. Overall, it was their first defeat in 18 ICC matches, with the previous setback coming in the 2023 ODI World Cup final at the same venue.
Chasing 188, India folded for 111 in 18.5 overs despite a fighting effort from Shivam Dube, who top-scored with 42. Contributions from Hardik Pandya and skipper Suryakumar Yadav (18 each) proved insufficient against South Africaโs disciplined attack.
Jansen and Maharaj dismantle chase
Marco Jansen led the bowling effort with four wickets, while spinner Keshav Maharaj struck three times in a decisive 15th over. Corbin Bosch claimed two scalps and captain Aiden Markram chipped in with one.
Earlier, South Africa posted 187/7 after recovering from early setbacks. Indiaโs pace duo Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh rattled the top order inside four overs. However, Miller and Dewald Brevis stitched a 97-run stand off 49 balls to revive the innings.
Brevis made 45 before falling to Dube, while Miller smashed 63 off 35 deliveries. Tristan Stubbs added an unbeaten 44 to push the total near 190. Bumrah finished with 3/15, but South Africaโs bowlers ensured a dominant victory.
