In Shangla’s Belkanai area of Kana Tehsil, a tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday when a woman named Mumtaza Bibi was brutally killed by her son, Akhtar Nawaz, following a heated argument.
The altercation reportedly began when Mumtaza Bibi objected to Akhtar Nawaz accompanying his uncle, Muhammad Ayaz, outside their home. This disagreement escalated, leading Akhtar Nawaz to attack his mother with an axe, resulting in her immediate death.
The District Police Officer Imran Khan confirmed the details, noting that the victim’s brother, Jehan Bar, reported the incident to the police.
According to Jehan Bar, Mumtaza Bibi had been married to Riaz Muhammad for 22 years but had been facing domestic disputes lately. The altercation that led to her tragic death occurred within their residence.
Following the incident, the police swiftly took action, registering a case under section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code at Olandar police station. Both Akhtar Nawaz and Muhammad Ayaz were promptly arrested. The authorities are currently conducting further investigations into the case to ascertain all pertinent details surrounding the crime.
In a separate incident on the same day, tragedy struck again in Shangla as a man named Ihsanullah drowned in the Indus River near Gunangar area of Chakesar Tehsil.
Locals reported that Ihsanullah had gone to the river for a bath, but was swept away by strong currents. As of the latest update, local divers continue their efforts to recover his body from the river.
These incidents have left the community in shock and mourning, with authorities and local residents actively engaged in responding to both tragedies.
