Marriage
Abdul Ahad, a young man hailed as a “trailblazer” on social media, shared the inspiring story of arranging his mother’s marriage after 18 years of divorce. The unexpected turn of events unfolded in Lahore, earning widespread praise for his maturity and support in a society where remarriage for divorced women often carries stigma.
Speaking on the morning show, Ahad revealed how the journey began. “I came back from the office late at night, around 12 a.m. My mother came to my room and told me about a marriage proposal my sister, Tuba, had mentioned to her.
At first, I casually replied, ‘Okay,’ because my mother usually avoids such discussions,” he recounted. However, a few days later, she brought up the topic again, mentioning that Tuba had passed along the suitor’s number and she had received a call from him.
Intrigued, Ahad decided to take the matter seriously and started exploring the proposal. He had an initial conversation with the potential suitor and found him to be a kind and understanding person who was willing to accept the family dynamics.
“When we spoke, he referred to me as his son. That was an overwhelming feeling for me, something I hadn’t experienced in a long time. I liked him,” Ahad shared.
Ahad didn’t stop there; he consulted other family members, including his grandparents and uncles, to ensure the decision was well thought out. The family arranged a meeting with the suitor to get to know him better.
Ahad noted that the man’s respectful attitude and genuine willingness to embrace the family left a positive impression. His mother, too, began to warm up to the idea, expressing her willingness to explore the relationship after sensing the suitor’s sincerity.
As the discussions progressed, the suitor visited Pakistan in early November. A lunch meeting with the family marked a turning point. “Everything progressed smoothly and naturally from there,” Ahad explained, adding that the suitor’s kindness and approachability played a significant role in their acceptance.
Ahad admitted that his mother was initially hesitant, as she was deeply concerned about her children’s well-being. He reassured her of his support, emphasizing the importance of her happiness and companionship. “She was introverted and worried about us, but I wanted her to feel owned and comfortable. I decided to fully support her.”
Reflecting on the societal pressures women face, Ahad pointed out how divorced or widowed women often refrain from remarrying due to family or societal expectations.
“Even if they do consider moving on, they tend to hide it. I wanted my mother to know she didn’t have to,” he said. As a social media influencer, Ahad initially hesitated to share clips of the marriage, but the overwhelmingly positive feedback from people encouraged him.
Ahad’s story is a powerful example of breaking stereotypes and putting family happiness first. His decision to support his mother’s remarriage demonstrates the importance of challenging societal norms and embracing second chances in life.
