Actress Shares How Financial Independence Shaped Her Career Path Despite Her Royal Background
Bollywood actress Soha Ali Khan, who hails from the esteemed Pataudi family, has opened up about her early career struggles, revealing that despite her royal lineage, she once lived in a rented apartment in Mumbai. The daughter of legendary actors Sharmila Tagore and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, and sister to actor Saif Ali Khan, Soha’s journey to success wasn’t paved with privilege alone.
In a recent interview, Soha shared that after completing her master’s degree from the London School of Economics, she was determined to be financially independent. She took up a job at an international bank with a modest annual salary of Rs 220,000, of which Rs 17,000 was spent on rent. Despite her well-known family background, Soha was committed to making her own financial decisions.
“I wanted to be financially independent and make my own life decisions,” Soha said, reflecting on her early days. “A large portion of my salary would go into paying rent, but that didn’t deter me. It was important for me to stand on my own feet.”

Although her family was initially hesitant about her stepping into the world of acting, Soha’s desire for independence gave her the courage to pursue her passion for cinema. She soon transitioned from her finance job to acting, with a pivotal moment being a modeling assignment worth Rs 500,000. This marked the beginning of her Bollywood career, with her debut in Dil Maange More opposite Shahid Kapoor, where she earned Rs 1 million.
