Pakistan Telecommunication Company Ltd (PTCL) announced on Thursday that the slow internet browsing issue caused by a fault in the international submarine cable has been resolved in record time.
“We are pleased to inform you that the slow browsing issue due to the AAE-1 submarine cable outage has been fully addressed in a remarkably short period,” the telecom company stated. PTCL credited its teams for working relentlessly to restore services and expressed gratitude for customer patience and understanding during the disruption.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had previously informed that internet service degradation, which affected the country, was mitigated by integrating temporary bandwidth into the system. This ad hoc bandwidth was arranged and activated to counter the disruption caused by the AAE-1 cable fault on January 2, 2025.
According to the PTA, “There is now no degradation in internet services nationwide.”
PTCL manages the AAE-1 cable alongside two other submarine cables, SMW-4 and IMEWE (India-Middle East-Western Europe), with auxiliary connections landing in Karachi. The SMW-4 and IMEWE cables connect at Hawksbay Beach, while AAE-1 connects at Clifton Beach.
Transworld Associates operates the SMW-5 cable (South-East Asia-Middle East-Western Europe-5), as well as the regional TWA-1 cable, linking Pakistan with the UAE and Oman. Additionally, Cyber Internet Services Ltd operates the ‘PEACE’ cable, which originates from China and connects to Europe via Karachi.
