Police pursue case as family seeks justice
KARACHI: A six-year-old boy who was assaulted by a seminary teacher in Karachiโs Manghopir area has died from his injuries, rescue officials confirmed on Monday. The child, identified as Hassan, had remained under treatment for weeks after the incident, which authorities say occurred in December. Police registered a first information report soon after the assault and arrested the suspect, therefore initiating a formal investigation.
Officials said the teacher struck Hassan on the head with a stick, which caused serious injuries. Following the incident, the childโs family reported the matter to the police, who took the suspect into custody. Moreover, investigators have continued collecting medical reports and witness statements to strengthen the case.
Family recounts medical struggle before death
Hassanโs father, Habibur Rehman, described the medical ordeal his son endured after the assault. He said doctors initially admitted the boy to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where he remained under observation for several days. After doctors discharged him, his condition appeared stable. However, a few days later, his health deteriorated again, prompting the family to rush him back to the hospital.
Doctors readmitted Hassan to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for further treatment. Subsequently, medical staff transferred him to the National Institute of Child Health due to the severity of his condition. Despite continuous medical care, the child died while undergoing treatment, his father confirmed.
Rehman quoted doctors as saying that his sonโs lungs had stopped functioning. He added that Hassan had suffered a serious head injury and never fully recovered after the assault. The grieving father said the family now seeks justice and wants authorities to ensure accountability.
The case has sparked concern among community members, who have called for stronger safeguards for children in educational and religious institutions. Meanwhile, police officials said they will continue the investigation and pursue legal action based on the evidence.
