Singapore has deported an Australian man who rushed Ariana Grande during a film premiere in the city.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority confirmed the deportation on Friday. Officials said the man, identified as 26-year-old Johnson Wen, received a permanent re-entry ban. Authorities stressed that Wen will never be permitted to return to Singapore.
A Singapore court earlier sentenced Wen to nine days in prison. Prosecutors charged him with creating a public nuisance during the high-profile event. Wen admitted that he jumped over a barricade to reach the singer.
He pushed past photographers before running directly toward Grande.
The incident unfolded at the Asian premiere of Wicked: For Good on 13 November. Co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly intervened and pulled Wen away from the actress. Security officers then restrained Wen near the barricades.ย Local reports said Wen attempted to breach the premiere twice. He first tried to approach the red carpet but failed to reach the stars. He later tried again and managed to jump the barricades.
Security staff immediately pinned him down before police arrived.
Wen has a history of disrupting celebrity events. He jumped on stage during a Katy Perry concert in Sydney earlier this year. His behaviour has drawn strong criticism across Singapore. Many accused him of re-traumatising Grande, who has faced significant past trauma.
Grande has spoken openly about her battle with post-traumatic stress disorder. She developed the condition after the 2017 Manchester Arena bombing. The attack killed 22 people and injured hundreds of her fans.
Supporters in Singapore condemned Wenโs actions after the recent incident.
Police arrested Wen the day after the premiere. Wen later posted videos thanking Grande for the moment.
He claimed he felt โfreeโ after the encounter. The court dismissed his remarks as attention-seeking behaviour.
District Judge Christopher Goh criticised Wen for ignoring consequences. The judge said Wen acted recklessly at the crowded event.
