Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the Works and Services Department to resume construction on the Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge by November 2025 and ensure its completion by 2026. The directive came during a meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House, where Shah reviewed the progress of key infrastructure projects across the province.
The Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge, being built over the Indus River under a public-private partnership model, is one of Sindh’s most significant infrastructure undertakings.
Once completed, it will serve as South Asia’s longest river bridge, directly linking Ghotki and Kandhkot and creating a vital road corridor between Sindh, Punjab, and Balochistan.
The bridge is expected to transform regional connectivity, ease transport of goods, and boost economic activity across multiple provinces.
The project’s total length is 12.15 kilometers, including extensive approach roads — 10.40 kilometers on the Ghotki side and 8.10 kilometers on the Kandhkot side — as well as a 4.55-kilometer Thull Link Road.
The chief minister emphasized the need for timely completion and urged all departments involved to accelerate their efforts, maintain regular coordination, and resolve any administrative or technical bottlenecks.
Earlier in May, Sindh Chief Minister’s Special Assistant on Investment and Public-Private Partnership, Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, described the initiative as “the longest river bridge in the entire South Asian region,” highlighting its strategic importance in enhancing interprovincial connectivity and promoting long-term socio-economic development.
With Shah’s renewed focus and a clear timeline in place, the Sindh government aims to push the project toward completion within the next year. The Ghotki-Kandhkot Bridge is poised to become a landmark symbol of regional integration and modern infrastructure progress in Pakistan.
